Innocent installations
I am writing this post inspired from a recent disaster recovery in a PC of a friend. This friend received recently a CD full of jokes. When he inserted the CD, he was prompted to install something in order to view the jokes. He viewed the jokes but nearly lost all of his data.
OK here is how it goes. If something is a movie, picture, text e.t.c. then normally it doesn’t need to install something on our computer. We open this kind of files every day and we will possibly have a program to open them. If such normal files require something to be installed in order to be opened then we should suspect a potential threat for our system and we must not proceed to any installations without the advice of someone experienced.
After all would you sacrifice all your data and privacy for a joke or a picture?
